Biography:

Huk Yurii Romanovych “ATOM”
04.05.2004–10.04.2024

Yurii Huk was born on 4 May in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk. He was the second child in the family. As a child, Yura could be described as kind, diligent, and calm — he always helped his parents. He first studied at Lyceum No. 21 and later at Lyceum No. 16. He was a diligent student, sang in a choir, and also enjoyed drawing and playing the violin. After finishing lyceum, he chose to study in the IT field.

When the full-scale invasion began, Yura refused to leave the country. He started training a lot and reading about weapon specifications and battlefield tactics. On 27 September 2023, he signed a contract with the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade. He first completed training in the United Kingdom and then within the brigade. After four months of training, he was assigned to the 1st Mechanized Battalion, 1st Company, 1st Platoon. Yurii sincerely believed in the brotherhood of the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade and idealized the brigade. He was very sincere and devoted to his friends.

He took part in the defense of Avdiivka and held the line at the coke plant. After the battles for Avdiivka, he became a squad commander. In March, Yurii was transferred to a reconnaissance group — again, more training and dangerous missions. Yurii took part in blowing up a road bridge behind enemy lines and protected sappers who were mining the area in front of our positions.

In combat and on missions, he was cool-headed, calm, and focused, and did not give in to emotions. He was brave and took risks when it was necessary. His last mission was to protect sappers. One flank was mined successfully, while the other was heavily covered by enemy fire. Yurii reported the danger to the commander; the commander confirmed the mission and allowed return fire. While protecting the sappers, Yurii returned fire, was wounded, crawled back to our positions, but died from blood loss on 10 April 2024, one month short of his twentieth birthday.
