Kobzarstvo is a unique phenomenon not only of Ukrainian culture, but of world culture as well, with roots reaching back to Kyivan Rus. The forerunners of the kobzars were military singer-gusli players who raised the fighting spirit of warriors, praising in epic songs the martial glory of princes and their retinues.
