Biography:
Vardhes Syrunian, call sign “CHORNYI”, was born on 24 June 1994 in the city of Zaporizhzhia. A qualified specialist, before the full-scale invasion he actively fought corruption in public procurement, achieving 42 victories at the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine. His principled nature and unwavering belief in justice were the driving forces of his life.
In June 2022, in the first months of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Vardhes voluntarily joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Despite serious health issues, he decided to serve the people of Ukraine, fighting for its independence.
As Chief Sergeant of the 1st platoon of strike unmanned aerial systems within the Unmanned Systems Battalion of the 43rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, he proved himself heroically on the hottest frontline directions. Thanks to his professionalism and courage, enemy infantry groups, two tanks, a “Sontsepiok”, and two vehicles were destroyed.
His deeds were recognized at the highest level. By Decree of the President of Ukraine dated 5 August 2022 No. 559/2022, Vardhes was awarded the President of Ukraine distinction “For the Defense of Ukraine”.
On 28 October 2024, while carrying out a combat mission on the Kupiansk direction, Vardhes Syrunian was killed, leaving us an example of true courage, selflessness, and love for the Motherland.
Vardhes was Armenian by origin, but for him Ukraine was his native land, which he defended to his last breath. His story is an example of the unity of our peoples in the fight for freedom and justice.
