Biography:

Nazar Oleksandrovych Kovalchuk was born on November 17, 2001, in the city of Netishyn, Khmelnytskyi Oblast. He was an incredibly kind, sincere, and bright person. His heart was full of love for those close to him, and family always held the most important place in his life.

Nazar did not seek to be a hero. He simply could not stand aside when the country needed defending. When he left for service, he said simple but powerful words that became a reflection of his character: “Who, if not me.”

In July 2023, Nazar signed a contract with military unit 3043 of the National Guard of Ukraine and became an assistant grenade launcher operator in an operational assignment battalion. He did not hide behind others—he was always the first to step in to help, to support his brothers-in-arms, and to carry out combat missions with dignity and devotion.

On January 28, 2024, during a battle near the village of Verbove in the Zaporizhzhia sector, Nazar sustained a severe mine-blast injury. He fought for his life in a hospital in Zaporizhzhia, but on January 31 his heart stopped…

He was only 22 years old.
There was a whole life ahead. Dreams. Love. But he gave everything—for all of us.

Memory and Family

Nazar left behind boundless sorrow and an enduring memory in the hearts of all who knew him.
He was a son, a brother, a beloved husband, a friend, a soldier—genuine and true.

He is survived by:
• his mother, for whom he was a pillar of support,
• his younger sister, whom he loved dearly and always protected,
• his beloved girlfriend, with whom he dreamed of a future.

Nazar’s farewell took place on February 3 in his native Netishyn. People came out into the streets, forming a “living corridor” as a sign of gratitude and respect. The Hero was laid to rest in the village of Sadky, in Ostrozhchyna.

Posthumously, Nazar was awarded the Order “For Courage” (3rd Class)—a symbol of bravery and self-sacrifice, which he earned not with words, but with deeds.
