Biography:
Fediuk Leonid Bohdanovych “KUBIK” was born on November 30, 1975, in the village of Hannopil, Khmelnytskyi Oblast.
February 24, 2022 was the day that forever changed his family’s life, as well as the fate of all of Ukraine. As early as February 26, Leonid volunteered to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine and was assigned to the 23rd Separate Rifle Battalion. In early spring, together with his brothers-in-arms, he took part in the defense of Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast.
From July, the battalion began carrying out combat missions in the east of the country, including in the area of the village of Novomykhailivka near Marinka, Donetsk Oblast. Leonid always found time to call his family, even for a minute—just to say that everything was fine, that it was quiet and calm. He said this to shield his loved ones from worry—protecting his family even from a distance.
On the evening of July 17, 2022, the family received a call from an unknown number. They were given the terrible news—Leonid had been killed…
In civilian life, Leonid was the head of the technical support department at a large computer company. He did what he loved; technology was not just his work—it was his element. It seemed there was no technical problem he could not solve. He constantly followed new developments, read professional articles, and watched educational films.
And at the same time, he remained a child at heart. He loved animated films, especially discussing them with his children. “With Dad you could always discuss any cartoon. Sometimes he managed to watch something new first—even before my sister and me. He knew all the characters, all the jokes, all the funny moments. Our favorite was probably Cars, where the main role was played by Syrnyk,” recalls his younger daughter, Sofia.
Leonid was a true engineer, a God-gifted technician. His hands could build and restore anything. That is why at the front he became a platoon radio operator and a drone operator.
He sincerely took interest in the history of Ukraine, had a clear civic stance, and spoke uncompromisingly about the enemy:
“Moskali are enemies who do not have their own достойна history, so for centuries they have been stealing ours. We have nothing in common. We are mentally different!”
His motto was simple and strong: “Learn the language! Language matters!”
For courage, bravery, and self-sacrifice, by Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 125 dated March 2, 2023, Leonid Bohdanovych Fediuk was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage,” 3rd Class.
He was also awarded (posthumously):
— the badge “For Devotion to the State and Personal Contribution to Bringing Victory Closer” (order dated 24.08.2023 No. 16/2023-KH)
— the commemorative medal “For Resilience” (dated 17.09.2023)
— the medal “Honor. Glory. State” (order of the Mayor of Kyiv dated 12.08.2024 No. 726)
