Biography:
Vadym Lysenkov was born on 8 December 1996 in Kyiv. He graduated from the Anton Makarenko Kyiv Vocational Pedagogical College, earning the qualification “Transport Technologies”.
Later, he served for three years under contract in the ranks of the “Azov” Regiment. He was an ATO veteran and was demobilized in 2017.
During Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, in April 2022 Vadym Lysenkov joined the Azov SSO unit and took part in sabotage and reconnaissance operations, including in settlements of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions. In June–July, he held the defense with periods of counterattacks against the enemy near the city of Huliaipole, Zaporizhzhia region. During these battles, the squad under Junior Sergeant V. Lysenkov destroyed about 70 occupiers in total. All enemy attacks were successfully repelled, and five counterattacks were carried out.
After the successful completion of the Kherson offensive operation, Vadym Lysenkov’s unit was redeployed to the city of Bakhmut, Donetsk region.
On 24 November, during a fierce battle, the squad under Lysenkov’s command destroyed more than 30 occupiers and forced the enemy to retreat from the positions it had captured. Also during that day, Vadym Lysenkov managed to save 12 Ukrainian fighters with wounds of varying severity by evacuating them from under fire and delivering them to an evacuation point via a river crossing. After evacuating the wounded, Junior Sergeant V. Lysenkov returned to his combat position.
Twenty-five-year-old Vadym Lysenkov was killed on 24 November 2022, sustaining injuries incompatible with life as a result of enemy artillery shelling.
By Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 406/2023 dated 8 July 2023, for personal courage and heroism shown in the defense of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and for devoted service to the Ukrainian people, Junior Sergeant Lysenkov Vadym Mykolaiovych was awarded the title Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the Gold Star (posthumously).
