"STANDUP"
Skrypnyk Dmytro
13.06.1997 - 09.05.2025
Senior Soldier, 12th Special Purpose Brigade “Azov,” National Guard of Ukraine
Biography:
Dmytro met the war in Kryvyi Rih together with his young daughter and wife.
He immediately went to the district military recruitment office, where he was refused mobilization. He also tried in other districts and was refused everywhere. He then began helping his wife with volunteer work. Together with his brother, he drove around the city collecting humanitarian aid for people arriving in Kryvyi Rih from combat zones in Kherson and Mykolaiv regions.
On 6 June 2023, “STANDUP” joined the military. After basic combat training, he deployed to the combat zone, where he served in the aerial reconnaissance platoon of the 3rd Battalion, 12th Azov Brigade of the National Guard of Ukraine. In December 2024, he joined the combat family of the K12 unit and most recently fought in the RTZR unit.
He received the call sign “STANDUP” because of his love of performing on stage. Since school, he had taken part in performances; as a student he appeared in KVN comedy shows and later performed stand-up comedy in Kryvyi Rih.
From August 2023, he took part in battles in the Serebrianskyi Forest near Kreminna, and later near Hryhorivka and Terny. From the spring of 2024 to the spring of 2025, he fought on the Toretsk–New York axis in Leonidivka, Panteleimonivka, Valentynivka, Sukha Balka, Petrivka, Shcherbynivka, Katerynivka, and Pleshchiivka.
He repeatedly risked his life for his brothers-in-arms and was always ready to go to the end. In battle, he kept a cool head, controlled fear, and constantly joked, using humor to support morale. For his brothers-in-arms, “STANDUP” was a professional, a warrior who would not leave the battlefield and would fight to the end. They trusted him with their lives. For his loved ones, he was the life of the company, someone with whom you could never be bored; a loving father, head of the family, a source of support, and a strong man.
Dmytro had not planned to connect his future with war, but when the time came, he joined the ranks without hesitation. He carried the memory of friends who had been killed in Mariupol, and this became part of his motivation to mobilize: to avenge his friends, defend the idea they carried, and protect his family and loved ones.
He was killed on 9 May 2025 near Pleshchiivka in the Toretsk district, at the age of 27.
As his commander “Halereia,” who considered him a younger brother, said: “All I can promise his family is that we will avenge him for as long as we live. Comrade STANDUP is forever in the ranks.”
